Do You Fall Asleep During the Day?

Are you plagued by tiredness? Do others say you snore? Are you at least slightly overweight? If so, you could have sleep apnea.

If all these are true, don’t wait! Sleep apnea could be shortening your life. Have your doctor prescribe a sleep study to find out whether you have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition where you are holding your breath and then gasping for air man times a night. Here’s one reason why you shouldn’t wait: it will shorten your life. You are at increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and other cardiovascular disease including aneurism. Here’s the other reason why you shouldn’t wait: there’s treatment.

Here is what happens in sleep apnea: the airway collapses when you breathe in. Fatty tissue lining the airway makes the airway less elastic. So sleep apnea is a condition caused by overweight, generally speaking. Snoring typically accompanies it.

The airway collapses. Then the blood oxygen level falls. Blood pressure goes way up as a result. The sleeper, struggling to breathe, starts to wake up. Nearly waking up, the sleeper is able to complete the breath. Then he falls asleep again. The cycle can be repeated many times per minute. If a stopped breath lasts 10 seconds, it is defined as sleep apnea.

Your cardiovascular system will wear out from the constantly spiking blood pressure. Your rest will be ruined because of the constant near-waking.

Oddly enough, you may not even be aware that you hold your breath while sleeping. Only the telltale tiredness will tip you off that you are in fact sleep-deprived.

The sudden rise in blood pressure many times a night is what can kill you, by leading to heart disease or stroke.

There’s treatment?

Effective treatment has been available for a couple of decades now. The continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) system supplies air from a fan through a hose to a mask placed over the nose and mouth. Pressure from the fan keeps the airway open as you breathe in. It’s not so much pressure that you can’t breathe out.

The nuisance that most people report about the CPAP is the mask: it can be uncomfortable. However, many suppliers are offering many masks these days. You can shop around.

Another downside is that you have to wear it whenever you lie down to sleep. If you go traveling or camping, you still have to wear it.

The fan makes a noise, but it’s a white noise that may actually help you fall asleep.

Let’s stack benefits against drawbacks. Without treatment, you risk early death. With it, you have to wear a mask when you sleep and locate an electric outlet. Which do you choose?

Food Weight Loss Journal – Do They Help To Lose Weight?

For most people, the reason why they kept on gaining fat in their bodies is because of food. As such, the best way to lose fat is to control the food intake. To most people, that is not an easy task to do. Here are some tips to change your eating habits.

Although maintaining a journal can be rather boring and tedious you need to remember that the reason that you are keeping track of everything that you eat is to lose weight. To lose weight ou must work hard and although it may be boring, keeping a weight loss journal really is not all that hard. Once you get into a habit of recording everything you eat it will become part of your routine and would not seem as tedious and trust me, it will pay off in the long term.

Firstly, you get to keep a record of your present lifestyle. By writing what you do or eat daily, you can see for yourself where your weakness links are. If there are certain bad behaviors that are showing up, you can nip them in the bud before they get out of control.

Let’s say that you have a habit of snacking between mealtimes and you have that recorded. Upon reflection, you may realize that you snack because you get hungry easily between meals. In this case, you may want to consider having more smaller meals spread throughout the day instead of the usual regular ones. Studies have found that this strategy can help to reduce hunger pangs and make you eat less.

You need to recognize that our eating habits are no more than routines that we have gotten used to. By making adjustment to healthier choices and keeping to them for a while, your body will automatically adjust itself and soon you will enjoy the whole process.

The second advantage to keeping a food weight loss journal is that you can also record your weight statistics such as your actual weight plus your waistline measurements and other measurements. This way you can routinely check these statistics and see the progress that you are making with your weight loss. I can tell you it can be very inspiring and motivating to see the improvements as time passes.

Finally, a weight loss journal can monitor your exercise routine. Exercises are key to losing weight and if your journal can act as some form of monitoring device for your weight loss it would be very useful for you.

As you have read, a weight loss journal is very helpful to help you lose weight. Use it wisely and consistently and I am very sure that you will see the positive changes in your life very soon.

The Relationship Between Sleep Apnea and Your Weight

Sleep Apnea is a medical condition characterized by interrupted breathing patterns during sleep. A sufferer of sleep apnea, who most likely snores very loudly, may stop breathing for 10-20 seconds while asleep, then resumes breathing with a gasp, choke, or loud snort.

This may occur anywhere from 5 to 30 times in an hour, and the reduced amount of oxygen in the blood can be life threatening.

Sleep apnea affects one in about every 25 adults, but 90% of all sleep apnea cases aren’t reported.

Most sufferers do not wake up during these episodes of non-breathing, and are not aware of the medical condition, hence it is not being reported.

Often, it is the sufferer’s bed partner or roommate who initially notices the signs.

It’s common knowledge that obesity is a cause of sleep apnea (the additional fat around the neck pushes against the airways). What isn’t as well-known is the fact that sleep apnea also causes obesity in return – the decreased amounts of oxygen in the blood triggers a “panic mode” in the body, causing it to store more fat to compensate for decreased energy reserves.

Question number one:What is your gender?
