Vegetarian Food Pyramid Facts

The typical vegetarian food pyramid is very close to the basic food pyramid that we are all familiar with. You’ll see replacements in the meat category with legumes and nuts, each of which is a great replacement for meat. At the base of the pyramid, indicating the largest percentage of food is the vegetable and fruit section. The reason for this is that fruits and vegetables contain the most fiber. Accordingly, a separate fiber section is not necessary on the food pyramid.

Be aware that the regular vegetarian food pyramid is not suitable for strict vegans since the dairy products listed are not within their guidelines. Replacing dairy with soy products, for example, is an alternative. The main difference between the vegan food pyramid and the vegetarian food pyramid would be the addition of breads and grains instead of dairy or egg products.

When attempting to plan a balanced and healthy diet, the vegetarian food pyramid is an excellent tool. Use it as a guide to help assess your nutritional needs and choose the right foods as well as the corresponding quantities that suit you best. Just as with the traditional food pyramid, the vegetarian version helps you get the proper amounts of each type of food.

Just as the traditional one does, the vegetarian food pyramid provides you, not only with serving the right amounts, but also the limits. Oils, fats, sweets and salts should be sparingly used as they are right on the pyramid’s top. This then can be the best healthiest diet.

The food pyramid that a vegetarian follows is a graphic representation of the healthy components of their diet. When the food pyramid is followed religiously, you can be assured that your diet is as nutritious as it could be. This is a great way for dieters, who also follow a vegetarian diet, to design their food plan to get the proper nutrition while they are trying to lose weight.

Many people opt for a vegetarian diet simply for health reasons. A vegetarian diet can present the challenge of getting the nutrition you need without eating meat, however, if you follow the pyramid, you can do this with ease. The time and work you use when planning your menus will be worth it when you discover a healthier you. All things being equal, vegetarians are generally healthier than people who are not.

When you are just starting out as a vegetarian you will find that the vegetarian food pyramid is a great way to plan your diet. It can help the novice get a greater understanding of nutrition and what is necessary for a healthy lifestyle. With all of this great information it is easier than ever to make the transition into a healthier diet. You will find that vegetarianism is a simple and delicious way to improve your health all around.

When Eating Meat is Simpler, Why Become a Vegetarian?

The idea of taking meat out of their diet confuses most people, so new vegetarians are often asked “why be a vegetarian?” Most people simply are not familiar with the abundant, tasty food options that vegetarians are able to take advantage of.

When asked “why be a vegetarian?”, the question can feel like an attack but most people are just curious about the decision. Many vegetarians are caught off guard and feel compelled to defend their lifestyle.

Why Stick To Vegetables Only When It Is So Expensive? Meat Is Tasty And Cheap

It requires a lot of effort and thought, is one of the arguments made against vegetarianism. It is a common misconception that vegetarians put more effort on their diet than meat eaters, but vegetarians are only more careful with their diet and stick to it diligently so as to maintain balanced nutrition.

A common misconception about vegetarianism is that it’s more expensive to eat foods to take the place of meats. While it’s true that pre-made packaged meat substitutes can be quite expensive, vegetarian food can be found in bulk for very little money. Vegetarian staples like rice, oats, beans, and pasta are very inexpensive.

It is an accepted fact that we all could benefit from more fruit and vegetables in our diets. However, when fresh fruits and vegetables are taken into account, the cost of the vegetarian diet does go up a small amount. However, vegetarians generally do not consume significantly more fresh vegetables and fruit than the rest of the general public.

When you take into account the fact that meat takes many times the amount of resources to produce that crops do, you’ll see that plant foods are actually less expensive to produce. The artificially low prices of meat in the supermarket and in restaurants are the result of government subsidies that provide farmers with payments to encourage them to produce meat.

Since Humans Were Meant to Consume Meat, Why Would You Choose To Be A Vegetarian?

There is plenty of biological evidence to counter the argument of meat eaters that humans were not made to live as vegetarians. Our digestive system shows that the optimal food for our bodies is plant matter, not meat, as we more closely physiologically resemble herbivores, rather than carnivores.

While the human body is capable of digesting meat, eating meat long-term is known to cause many health problems. High cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis are all directly linked to eating meat. Although eating meat infrequently does not seem to significantly raise our risk for these maladies, the typical American diet contains so much meat that it effectively poisons our bodies. Were we designed to be meat eaters? The evidence suggests that we were not.

Why Become a Vegetarian? Why Can’t You Become One?

Even, though there are many reasons to be vegetarian, your personal beliefs are the most important. Becoming a vegetarian removes your endorsement from an industry that produces more waste than all other American industries put together. You will be doing your part to achieve a healthy lifestyle, as well as a healthier planet. You will also be doing your part in supporting animal rights. There are no known detrimental effects of being a vegetarian, in fact being one has many benefits for one’s physical, emotional, and financial well-being.

The whole intention with a vegetarian resource center is to have informative information waiting to help you with this recently new lifestyle change. It will present you with all the beneficial info on nutrition. Likely these resource centers will be non profit and with that, should be dedicated to education only. Check for there reference guide.

A how to group for Vegans will be a great help with all the challenges of your meat eating friends. Use the resource center as a place for new ideas for them and new foods for self. It’s like a fact center just for you, use it.

Vegetarian standards are different according to the vegetarian society, such as terms like vegetarian or vegan. The vegan is the higher standard vegetarian but the later is the minimum vegetarian. There is so much confusion over those terms, even in food labels.

Some people choose what they eat simple by if it is going to cause harm and/or death to anything living. If you choose that your choice is going to be somewhat limited. You will have just mostly nuts and pasta with some tomato sauce. Very little in fine cuisine will be eaten.

It may seem like a pain being a vegetarian, but take my word for it is worth it. Most of my adult life I have been a vegetarian and with this talk of lack of muscle without eating meat. Oh come on now last time I checked, I do believe cows still eat just grass. The people of this world have lived off of farms for thousands of years.

What Can a Vegetarian Diet Do for You?

May 16, 2008 by Brian Paul

Whether to become a vegetarian might be something you have been thinking about for some time but do not really know if will change anything for you. You may ask yourself will it really make much difference in the scheme of things.

But you can do a lot as an individual that will be good for you and good for hundreds of animals. A diet made up largely of meat causes heart problems which are the most common causes of death in the United States and other meat consuming countries.

Many of today’s heart conditions would not be so commonplace if people did not eat so much food with high levels of cholesterol, such as dairy products and eggs. The figures speak for themselves when a person who eats meat is four times as likely to suffer a heart attack as someone who is a vegetarian.

On the other hand the numbers of heart attacks in vegans are an astonishing 10 times less than those of people that eat meat. The health of a persons heart is only one of many areas where being a vegetarian will benefit their overall health.

Normal, everyday food contains a whole host of preservatives (especially common in meat) that has shown links with many types of cancer. Animal feed also contains hormones to make them put weight on faster so vegetarians are not usually exposed to these chemicals which most people consume everyday.

It is also much easier to avoid the consumption of lactose which many people have intolerance to, causing digestive conditions. In addition to health benefits you will receive as an individual by becoming a vegetarian, you will also reduce your share of the suffering human beings inflict on animals.

In fact the death toll of animals may be far greater than expected with figures in the region of 2,700 eaten by an average American in their lifetime. Even a single person could, in the space of a few decades, save the lives of many hundreds of animals which would have been killed for food. To help even further and stop the number of battery hens and dairy cows from having to suffer degrading conditions you could stop drinking milk and eating eggs.

If you were also to give up dairy products and eggs, many battery hens and cows would not need to be used to feed you. So if you haven’t worked it out by now, yes we can all make a difference both individually and collectively which should show why becoming a vegetarian is so important. Many animal lives would be saved and your life would be improved with less chance of you developing cancer or a coronary heart condition.
