Most people have heard of the Atkins diet, but may have no idea who Robert Atkins, the founder is. He was a doctor in the 70′s that was overweight, read a normal diet plan in the Journal of American Medicine and adapted it to fit his own needs and lost weight with it. He started writing books about his weight loss plan and the rest is history.
The Atkins diet is a low carbohydrate high protein diet. The Adkins food list may include such items as, unprocessed meats that include pork, lamb, beef, veal, mutton, ham, venison and sugar free bacon. It also includes poultry such as chicken, duck, goose and quail as well as unprocessed fish such as tuna, trout and catfish. You can also eat unprocessed shellfish like clams, oysters and shrimp.
Fats and some dairy products are accepted, you mainly are watching carbohydrates, which the body converts to sugar and stores as fat. Because most fruits contain natural sugar, these are restricted except for unsweetened berries, cherries and grapefruit. You have to watch salad dressings and condiments, normally sugar free are fine. The same is true of beverages and sweeteners. Basically, anything containing sugar or carbohydrates that can be converted to sugar are restricted on the Atkins diet.
If you can afford them, the Atkins diet has its own brand name products, such as low carbohydrate breakfast bars, quick and easy mixes, sugar free syrup and diet shake mixtures. They also offer a fourteen day starter kit to support your weight loss. If you are thinking of starting the Atkins diet for weight loss you need to read the Atkins diet books and understand the diet fully. This can be a problem if you are short of time or hate reading.
Following the Atkins diet means that you will be counting carbohydrates rather than calories. There are different phases to the diet, the first of which is the induction phase. In the induction phase many foods are restricted. With the next phase, you can add more carbohydrates back into your diet. With the final phase, you are allowed more carbohydrates but you are still restricted in the amount of carbohydrates you can consume.
There is an Atkins diet support system which offers online support via a newsletter, discussion groups, sample menus, a research library, topics of frequently asked questions and recipes. You can also get support from fellow Atkins dieters.
The Atkins diet is a good plan for many individuals to lose weight, but does not work for everybody. Some people are unable to avoid bread, potatoes, rice and pasta and can’t stand it any more and break down and cheat or just quit. They have to find another diet program that will work for them.
No matter which diet you may chose to use the hardest aspect is maintaining a healthy weight. That means keeping it off. This is especially true when you already have a predisposition to be overweight. The only means to success when it comes to maintaining your weight loss is by simply committing yourself to actively changing your habits of eating and your lifestyle. Does Green Tea Dieting have any Side Effects?

American and Chine se researchers have been studying Green Tea and how it effects the levels of Cholesterol. Views are still mixed as there seems to be pros and cons for both sides of the research.
When the research was conducted, approximately 200 men and women (average age 55) who have mild to moderately high LDL cholesterol levels joined in the case study. The researchers told them to keep their usual activity levels the same as before and eat the same way. After twelve weeks, it was shown that individuals who consumed green tea extract with their normal meals lost more than fifteen percent of their total LDL cholesterol levels.
It has never been explained in detail exactly how green tea effects the levels of cholesterol but certain components found in green tea have proven to play a key role in excreting cholesterol from the body.
Further studies were conducted to test the findings of the first group. Their results were conflicting. They did state green tea had no important effect on the cholesterol profiles of their subjects.
Here is an example of a perfect situation where something that is organic does not get the support of the medical community, which to me is a complete load of ….
When my son was 3 years old he got the chicken pox. Most kids do get it, but the problem was, he got it everywhere. There literally was not one square centimeter on him that did not have a spot on it. This kid was in so much pain we took him to the hospital 3 times to try and find something that would help ease the pain of being so itchy. Three trips to the doctor resulted in nothing being prescribed.
Finally a family member recommended for us to try the extract from an Aloe Vera plant. Once I found one to buy, I applied it to my son and with in 15 minuets he had stopped crying, and he was no longer itchy.
My youngest son got the chicken pox when he was 6 months old. We had to take him to the hospital just to be safe (6 months old is a bad age to get the chicken pox) and when we were there I told the nurse what we got to work with our oldest boy. She told us she knew that all ready. I asked why no one would tell us and her response was “we are not permitted to recommend organic forms of medicine” I was like…..ok, just let the kid suffer then?
Even though there is tons of evidence supporting major success with dieters using green tea to help them lose weight y guess is if it is not made by a pharmaceutical company doctors can not support it, right?
Do You Know About Weight Watchers’ Point List? You Should!

ass="dropcap">Weight watchers, one of the most successful weight loss plans in the United States of America. In fact this plan re-creates itself every few years just to make it relevant for its many users and keep it and keep the users interested. At base Weight Watchers plan is founded on the points system and relies heavily on group support.
Each starting weight category is assigned a range of points. This is the number of points that can be eaten in a day. According to the plan, as long as a person stays within that point range each day, they will lose weight There are no food restrictions with Weight Watchers diets. They can have half of their calories come from a piece of cake as long as they don?t go over the daily point limit.
As a weight watchers dieter you’ll be keeping track of your points in a weekly food journal or using a weight watchers calculator. You can subtract the total points of everything you eat to determine the points you have remaining. Now members also attend a weekly weigh-in and group meetings. Here you’ll get advice from group leaders and listen and share successes stories and commiserate over the rare story of failure.
It is a fact that most people’s weight fluctuates on a daily basis. In fact your weight may fluctuate from hour to hour. This is due to many causes: menstrual cycle, water weight, other health issues. Your weekly weigh-in will be a great way for you to keep track of progress. But sometimes these way and can be a little bit discouraging or disheartening. For example if you’re sticking to the diet staying within your points and exercising but only losing a few pounds or even perhaps gaining a pound or two you may get frustrated.
The food that you will eat is assigned a point value that is determined based on serving size. The plan has an extensive list that contains many different foods but there is not a point value for every food that you could possibly eat. Those foods to be given a slide rule that will help you determine the individual point value based on fat, fiber and calories per serving.
The weekly meetings have a small associated cost. Before you weigh-in at the meetings you’ll be charged. It’s inexpensive and if you pay the charge you will have access to the meetings, the support, and the encouragement of fellow attendees. As a bonus you will have access to fantastic online tools as well. The meetings might even be conducted at your workplace is there are enough employees that are interested in participating.
The weight watchers diet has been expanded! The diet now includes chocolate candies, cereal, breads, yogurt, and frozen meals. In fact the point system developed by weight watchers is now so common that other frozen meals made by other companies have the weight watchers point values on them. And these days weight watchers has many different plans to fit the needs of almost any dieter.
Now a little bit of bad news or good news depending on how you look at it. The plan does encourage exercise after the first few weeks it’s not required, however, you will progress much more quickly if you exercise. If you’re going to use the Weight Watchers plan he should read as much information as you can about the plan in order to reap the largest benefit. Now the plan allows participants to eat what they want but it’s important at first to follow what the plan tells you. Sometimes eating the wrong combination of foods will prevent you from losing weight even if you’re exercising. This will cause furious frustration. So read everything you can follow the diet closely at a little bit of exercise and you will lose tons of weight.
Anyone thinking of starting the Weight Watchers diet needs to remember the daily points are simply a guideline for eating. For those who don?t learn the right foods to consume, they may find the weight coming off, but a healthy lifestyle will still elude them. For those who don?t mind writing down everything they put into their mouths, this plan is great. Watch food points and watch the weight come off.
Is Detox Diet workable?

People in general are followers. An example of this, we can see very clearly is the Presidential Race this is going on now in America. You will see Obama’ s camp have their group of followers and likewise too Senator McCain’s camp too. This is also evident too when it comes to fad diet plans. Nowadays we can find many obese people in their quest to lose weight keep following the latest fad on diet plan. One of the latest fad diet plan that is fast becoming popular is the Detox diet plan. How effective this plan is hard to say as those who lost weight initially seems to gain it all back.
This is because our bodies are already filled with toxins that we pick up from the air we breathe, the water that we drink, the food that we eat and even from what we use everyday. As such any steps that we will seem to be ineffectual. Our bodies has already a natural system which deal with harmful toxins that occurs naturally but it cannot cope with those which comprises of synthetic chemicals introduced into our bodies from our environments.
It is not that only adults’ bodies are full of toxins; studies have pointed out that even a newborn child inherits loads of toxins from his mother’s body. Scientists have also claimed that the detox diets simply do not work the way they should and hence, they are totally unnecessary!
The toxins within our bodies cause us to eat more than we should. And at the same time, our body ability to burn the extra calories effectively has diminished. The end results will be that all the excess calories will end up as fats deposited in our bodies. Therefore it will be wise to avoid processed foods like butter, cream and even some cheese as they have toxins in them which are harmful to us.
The best detox diet plan which you can follow is to just avoid foods which had been processed but go for foods that re organically grown. Good examples of good foods are raw fruits, vegetables which can help a person lose weight uickly. Another good thing to do is to drink more water as water will assist our bodies to increase its metabolism rate. Do not take beer, Alcohol, soda & soft drinks. Abstain from foods like white flour & Sugar as well. These types of foods provides your body with nothing except “empty calories” which ultimately gets converted to fats in our bodies.
Foods containing complex carbs such as potatoes are also good for your health!
Take unsaturated fats like those which can be found in Tuna, Salmon etc. Avoid saturated fats which are present in Butter & cream which only makes a person fat. In conclusion, I hope this version of the detox diet plan will be able to help you with quick weight loss.
