Why Most Diets Fail

Because of the generally dismal success rates when it comes to dieting, some people have even concluded across the board that diets don’t work. Part of why diets fail is because diet food is often not very satisfying. Many diets involve eliminating certain foods or even whole food groups. This is not only unhealthy but also unrealistic for the long term.
Many diets are based on taste bud boredom.
Diets are temporary: Once they have reached their goal, mostly the people go back to “normal” eating, so the weight comes back.
Diets can be expensive. The special meals, supplements and pills can be very costly.
Diets can actually lower your metabolism. When you drastically cut back on calories, your metabolism tends to slow down. You burn fewer calories and the diet becomes less effective.
Diets often fail to provide adequate protein intake, resulting in hunger.
Because the results are not immediate, dieters will often come discouraged and discontinue their diets.
Diets focus on treating a symptom (weight gain) rather than providing what your body needs to naturally maintain its weight.
Most diets don’t encourage lifestyle changes Diet is only half of the equation. Lifetime weight management is not just about what you eat, it requires physical activity as well.
Permanent changes in eating habits and exercises are required for a sustained loss weight.
Exercise is also a vital component of a healthy lifestyle and needs to be part of the program to maintain your ideal weight
Lifestyle changes are the key to making your “diet” succeed but remember
Making lifestyle changes is never easy.
Making healthy lifestyle changes is more important than reaching a specific number on the scale.
Making healthy lifestyle changes is not about deprivation.
Making healthy lifestyle changes is long-term process.
The key to making permanent lifestyle changes is to take “baby” steps by making small, achievable goals and sticking to them.
